Engagement Session

The perfect timing, location & outfit

Planning Your

Welcome

We are so elated to be working with you and we are excited to start our time together capturing your engagement session. We are big fans of engagement sessions, mainly because it might be your first time in front of a professional camera. It is a great opportunity to meet us, but also to shake off those nerves for your wedding day. Secondly, it is a great way to show off your personalities in a casual setting. Planning for your engagement session can be a little overwhelming so we created a short guide to help answer any questions you might have!

Time &
Lighting

Sessions can take place at any time following the proposal. We do recommend scheduling your session at least 6 months before your wedding date, especially if you want to use some of the imagery for a save the date. There isn't really a good or bad time through out the year, as they all have their pros and cons!

Once we decide on a date for your session we help plan for the lighting. Sessions can last between an hour and 2 hours. We typically like to plan sessions either right at sunrise or about 2-3 hours before sunset to capture that golden hour lighting.

Destination Engagement Sessions

We are always open for traveling to a meaningful destination for your engagement session, so don't be afraid to ask. We have had the honor of photographing couples in Colorado, Ohio, North Carolina and more.

Outfits

Choosing the right outfit for your engagement session can be one of the hardest decisions, we all have been there. We wanted to give a few tips that make for beautiful outfit choices when you are being photographed. Firstly, we like to say complement each others outfits instead of matching. Mixing and matching colors and patterns work best. Stick with about 3-4 colors total and one pattern.

We also recommend for most sessions, choosing two outfits. One more causal and one of them more of a dressy or formal outfit.

For the girls

There are so many aspects of your wardrobe to consider. Before we get started, the best advice we have is wear something you are comfortable in. For colors we love softer colors versus bold. They just tend to photograph better. If you are thinking about doing a pattern, larger works best! Heels can elongate your legs, but if they are uncomfortable for you then feel free to leave them at home. Also be aware we might be walking on dirt paths and grass, so heels come with their own challenges. And finally hair and makeup! If there is a time to get it done, then this is a great excuse!

For the guys

As we said with the girls, the best thing to remember when selecting your outfit is to choose something that is comfortable and you feel confident in. Button ups are great, whether short or long sleeve. This can pull off a more causal or even more dressy look. Select larger patterns over small. Add in a statement watch or shoes to add some flair to your look. As with the ladies, stick to softer colors as well.

weather

Weather can play a big role in an engagement session, especially when it comes to weather in the lowcountry.

If we suspect rain is in the forecast we will reach out the day before the session (especially those with planned hair and makeup) to chat about options. Generally those depend on you! We are all for rescheduling with bad weather, because we want you to have your session where you want it! We also are typically pretty flexible about timing if we need to switch a sunrise session to sunset or the opposite.

What happens after

We deliver a beautiful engagement session that typically takes 2-3 weeks for us to hand pick and edit each image that is sent to you.

Your gallery will be sent over digitally through our gallery system and will include options to add on an engagement session album/guest book signing and a print shop to order beautiful memories of your engagement to you.
