There are certain events we get the chance to capture that we just fall in love with the design… Gwen and AJ’s romantic garden wedding at Bellwether House was one of them.

We had the privilege of getting to capture a wedding at this venue shortly after they began hosting them, so when Gwen inquired as the inn was finishing being remodeled we weren’t sure what to expect.

Gwen and AJ are intentional people, and knowing that now, the Bellwether was the perfect intimate location to host their destination wedding in Savannah.

Drayton Hotel Rehearsal Dinner

Gwen and Aj hosted an intimate welcome party dinner at the stylish Drayton Hotel rooftop. The rooftop was the perfect setting to welcome their out of town guests with unobstructed views of Savannah’s City Hall. The Pendant Terrace and Bar that the welcome party took place has both an indoor and outdoor space. The outside includes plenty of setting, from formal table and chairs to couches to just gather causally for conversation. The inside space is where the bar can just found. A long bar with high chair seating and some booth seating. It was a great space for their wedding guests to come and say hi and spend time together before the big day.

The Brides Style

Gwen, by trade is an interior designer and her style was seen throughout her wedding day, including her bridal look. She went with an elegant, classic bridal look with a touch of vintage and glam. She chose a satin, sleek strapless align wedding dress that was simple and elegant. To customize it and make it her own she added sheer, balloon sleeves to the dress.

For the ceremony her dress had whimsical vibes with the addition to her custom sheer train. She kept her hair in an easy down do with vintage curls and simple jewelry. But the shoes were a vision. To pull together all the wedding details she had a pair of small heel pointed mule style shoes in green velvet and a gold accent piece.

An Intimate Garden Venue

The Bellwether House was recently restored in 2020 and reopened in 2021. It began as two townhouses built back in 1876. It was transformed into the luxurious bed and breakfast that also acts an intimate wedding venue where you can transform the entire inn for your guests to enjoy the experience of staying here but also your wedding day. It boasts the longest continuous front porch and has a beautiful brick courtyard to use.

If the goal for your wedding is to really wow your guests with an experience and your guest list is rather intimate then the Bellwether House is the perfect bed and breakfast in downtown Savannah to see. On top of spoiling them with a private location to stay for their destination wedding, they also are spoiled through the staff at Bellwether while they stay for the weekend.

The Ceremony

As the courtyard was transformed into the reception space for Gwen and AJ’s wedding, they headed down to Lafayette Square for their ceremony. Just a short 5 minute walk down the cobblestone sidewalks in the historic district lies Lafayette Square where St. John the Cathedral and the Turner House can be found. Gwen and AJ opted to let the beauty of the city speak for themselves through a ceremony that was led by a good friend of theirs. They walked out of their ceremony with all of their guests surrounding them.

The Reception and Intimate Party

Block Party Design in combination with Gwen and her interior design background transformed the courtyard at Bellwether into a dream intimate garden wedding. The tables were draped with a white tablecloth, wicker plate mat, white plates and a yellow velvet napkin with name plates.

Gray Harper Florals created center pieces placed in black vases that really played into the jewel tones of the wedding with dark reds, yellows, blacks and muted greenery. It blended perfectly with the greenery and trees surrounding the courtyard. Gray Harper Florals also created a beautiful floral display down the stairs from the inn into the courtyard that created a whimsical vibe.
